Ankle Op To Rule Out Ronaldo
Sat 05 Jul, 07:09 AM

Manchester United may yet kick off next season without Cristiano Ronaldo - but the club insist it will not be because he is being sold to Real Madrid.

The Portugal winger is expected to undergo ankle surgery next week, which could rule him out for six weeks.

Confirmation of Ronaldo's operation comes after the view of a specialist backed up that of medical staff from both United and the Portuguese Football Association.

The news came on the day United were forced to rubbish fresh reports from Spain that the 23-year-old will sign for Real, the latest claiming he will move within a matter of days.

A club spokesman said: "It is utter nonsense and totally laughable. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale."

Despite Ronaldo's desire to move and a huge fee of around £70million being on offer, United chiefs believe selling the player would cause huge disruption to the club.

Apart from the effect on the team's playing style and formation, it would also send a signal United are in some way a lesser team than Real.

The Glazer family bought United because they viewed it as the biggest club in the world so they cannot afford to been seen as weaker than Real Madrid, one of their biggest European rivals, or in thrall to their star player.

The message chief executive David Gill has given to the Glazers is if they stand firm on Ronaldo and neither sell him nor give him another big new contract then it will strike a major blow against player-power and have long-term future benefits for the club.

There is no real financial incentive to the Glazers either - the club's profits are already covering their debt repayments easily so there is no requirement to raise new capital.

If they considered selling Ronaldo, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would argue he would need all the £70million fee as transfer funds to replace his most valuable player.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Personally I support MU but I feel they also very itcy backside, they keep saying Ronaldo not for sale, this stupid Real Madrid still come and disturb.

Why cant they just tell them off and name them a price like 150 or 200 million, one time payment, no instalment payment. If they still want, then pay up and let him go. If not, RM can just shut up.

All these talks about Ronaldo leaving Man U for Real Madrid can do no harm to both club's stock price. So the longer the rumours are in the air, both clubs will benefit.

Huntelaar Favours Old Trafford Move

Ajax forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has revealed his desire to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Ruud Van Nistelrooy and star for Manchester United. Huntelaar is one of the most sought-after commodities in this transfer window, with Real Madrid also competing for his signature.

The striker’s Ajax departure now looks imminent after the Amsterdam club smashed the Dutch transfer record with the signing of Miralem Sulejmani from Heerenveen.

Ajax have slapped a £20 million price tag on Huntelaar’s head, which could deter potential suitors. However, the player is adamant that a move to Old Trafford would be his preference.

Huntelaar has an outstanding scoring record for Ajax, with 70 goals in just over 80 league appearances for the club. He has also netted eight strikes in 13 international outings.

He now hopes to emulate his Oranje team-mate Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who spent five fruitful seasons at Manchester United.

He told the Dutch media: "I love clubs with great history like Ajax. I also love United. It`s a club that makes me dream, especially as Ruud van Nistelrooy played there and did great things with them.

This could be interesting. I believe this player has plenty of potential. And moving to Utd will give him a very good chance to fulfill at of those.

Premier League - Ronaldo likely to miss start of season

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has undergone "successful" surgery on his right ankle, but will probably miss the start of the season.

The 23-year-old was operated on by professor Niek van Dijk in Amsterdam on Monday morning, and a hospital spokesperson said he will be discharged on Tuesday.

The Premier League champions said he faces at least a month out, making him unlikely to be fully fit for the start of the domestic season on August 16.

The player opted for surgery after medics from United, Portugal and a specialist agreed it was necessary to reduce the risk of further complications to a niggling ankle problem.

Ronaldo said after his participation at Euro 2008 that he had been carrying an ankle injury for several months.

United said that he would "begin his convalescence under the direction of club medical staff", and that no return date would be set for at least a month.

Ronaldo continues to provoke feverish transfer speculation, with Real Madrid sending mixed messages over their chances of signing him.

On Sunday president Ramon Calderon said Real were unlikely to secure Ronaldo's signature, but has now been quoted as saying United should be "proud" to take part in "the transfer of the century".

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Going, gone (soon)? Let's get it over with, kns!

Ronaldo 'wants transfer freedom'

Ronaldo scored 42 goals for Manchester United last season
Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Fifa president Sepp Blatter's suggestion that he should be able to leave Manchester United if he wants.

Ronaldo, 23, has been heavily linked with Real Madrid and has said it would be a "dream" to join the Spanish side.

Blatter insists that players should be free to play where they choose.

And Ronaldo told Portuguese broadcaster TVI: "You know what I said, what I want and what I would like. I agree completely with the president of Fifa."

The Portugal winger, who is recovering after undergoing ankle surgery last week, added: "At the moment there is no agreement with Real Madrid. Now I have to wait and see but I do not know where I will begin the season."

Blatter irked United with his claims on Thursday comparing transfer trends to "modern slavery".

A United spokesman said: "All our players enter into their contracts after an open and free negotiation."

And the statement continued: "Most of whom do after taking advice from a Fifa-registered agent.

"Many do so on a number of occasions and enjoy long and successful stays at Old Trafford."

Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals as United won the Premier League title and Champions League last season, has a deal which runs until 2012 and the club have repeatedly said he is not for sale.

But Blatter told Sky News: "I'm always in favour of protecting the player and if the player wants to leave let him leave.

"If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found because if he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play then it's not good for the player and for the club.

"I think in football there's too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere.

"We are trying now to intervene in such cases. The reaction to the Bosman law is to make long-lasting contracts in order to keep the players and then if he wants to leave, then there is only one solution, he has to pay his contract."

Real president Ramon Calderon is keen to sign Ronaldo and last week he said that the player will be the one who ultimately decides where he plays next season.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

This Blatter is just like Platini, they just dont like English clubs. They worry the English clubs will dominate the Champions League. If what Blatter say is to be taken seriously, FIFA should abolish the transfer system.

Just let the players decide who they want to play for, and clubs should not need to pay the other club for it. Then it will be all fair and square. Then again, no one would develop young players since there are no opportunities for income, especially true for "smaller" clubs. There will be no chance for "slavery", small clubs will all turn amateur - relying on sponsorship instead of income, we will have a bunch of old players still plying the trade, since no want would want undeveloped players (who would?), and the football world will be in chaos.

These two so-call heads of footballing bodies should be kicked out of their positions. Getting paid fat salaries and have done nothing. What has the footballing world achieve since they took over? More controversies, that's all.

Silly silly.
