SINGAPORE - Former National Solidarity Party Secretary-General Mr Goh Meng Seng was stripped naked by Hougang residents last Sunday after the conclusion of a by-election which saw the Worker's Party retain its Hougang seat.

Residents of Hougang SMC dragged the screaming political commentator aboard a perambulator, stripped him, and paraded him round the constituency in his birthday suit for three hours, chanting slogans like "this analyst hath no clothes".

Speaking on condition of anonymity to the press, a female resident said that she and other residents had endured months of shoddy political analysis by Mr Goh, who boldly predicted that WP's winning margin might narrow to as low as 10%, or that massive ground discontent has swelled up against WP.

She explained that the purpose of parading a naked Mr Goh round the constituency was to show that "the emperor had no clothes".

"He thinks himself as a king of political analysis, so the analogy is quite fitting," she added.

Mr Goh was not available for comment at press time. Sources claim he secretly enjoyed the attention.

An Indonesian maid has pleaded guilty for pouring menstrual discharge into her employer's coffee.

She was jailed for one month on Tuesday for the mischief in her employer's home on Aug 31 this year, reported The Straits Times.

The court heard that Jumiah had wanted a change of employer after working for the family for 1-1/2 months. However, her request was turned down.

She subsequently added her discharge into her employer's drink. She thought that he would be nicer to her after drinking it and would agree to send her back to the maid agency.

She stored her discharge in a plastic bottle on Aug 26 and kept it.

Five days later, she mixed it into the coffee of her 37-year-old male employer who drank it and left for work.

The matter came to light when the employer's mother found the bottle filled with brownish liquid and questioned Jumiah about its contents.

She claimed that it was tea and then threw the contents away.

However, the mother kept the bottle and confronted her again the next day.

Jumiah first claimed that it was tea and then medicine, before finally coming clean when her employer said he will send the bottle for laboratory testing.

This guy started off very promisingly, he went around proclaiming that he stands for alot of things. Then somehow along the way, he seems to be confused as to what he really wants. Because of his antics, he has created a confused image of himself, thus its not surprising rumours are now going around that he and TKL are both moles. Had it not been for these 2 jisiao kias diluting the votes, TCB might have beaten TT for the Presidency.

Character-wise, this guy seems to be the Indian chief type, so he is unlikely to join any parties, more likely is he may either form his own party, either that or perhaps form some kind of alliance with Nicole Seah ?

However in the meantime, he is party-less, which means he represents nothing. So the question is, was he planted there simply to cho luan the opposition? Or is he just an opportunist, working for his own self-interest, seeking wealth and fame for himself?

CPF minimum sum to be raised to $139,000

The CPF minimum sum will be revised upwards to $139,000 from the previous $131,000 from July 1 said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Wednesday.

The new minimum sum will apply to CPF members who turn 55 from July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.

The Medisave minimum sum will also be raised to $38,500 from the previous amount of $36,000.

Members will be able to withdraw their Medisave savings in excess of the Medisave minimum sum at or after age 55.

The maximum balance a member can have in the Medisave account is fixed at $5,000 above the Medisave minimum sum.

Corresponding to the increase in the Medisave minimum sum, this ceiling would also be increased to $43,500 from $41,000.

Any Medisave contribution in excess of the prevailing ceiling will be transferred to the Special Account if the member is below 55 years old or his Retirement Account if he is above 55 and has a shortfall in his minimum sum.

The CPF board said that the revisions, which have been adjusted for inflation, are to ensure that Singaporeans have sufficient savings to meet their healthcare expenses.

Crime syndicate targeting Singapore flights: Police

SINGAPORE - Singapore police warned on Tuesday that members of a crime syndicate from China were believed to be stealing money from the bags of passengers while they slept on flights to and from the country.

Eighteen reports about in-flight thefts have been filed so far this year, up from only one in 2011, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Tee, head of the airport police division.

'Investigations revealed that some of the thieves are suspected to be syndicate members from China working in groups of three to four individuals per flight,' Assistant Commissioner Tee told AFP.

'They would strike during boarding operations, or in-flight when passengers are asleep or when using the toilets. Their goal is to steal cash which has been kept by passengers inside their travel or laptop bags stowed in the overhead compartments of the aircraft.' Assistant Commissioner Tee said the thefts were confined to some carriers on regional flights.

Last week Chinese national Fu Xinping was jailed for four weeks for stealing US$800 (S$1,020) and HK$3,000 (S$492) from a fellow Chinese national's bag on a Hong Kong-bound Singapore Airlines flight in April, local media reported.

Singapore Airlines declined to reveal the number of thefts on its flights recently but said cabin crew had been advised to remain vigilant.
