This is my 1st trip to Vietnam but I dont think it would be the last. To help brothers check out good places, I pen below the ktv that I went tonite.

I would call this place high class but it is reasonable. The quality of the girls vary from 6 to 8.5. Price is USD100 overnight. For a party of 5, and we drank a lot of beer, we paid about USD210. The tip for the girl that we didnt bring back was VND200K. So based on what I read so far in the thread, this is pretty reasonable.

The girl I pick was very pretty.....FR to follow on the outcome.

btw, i heard during cny most of the people in hcmc will return back to their hometown. some companies even shut down their office for 2 weeks. but i'm not sure abt the entertainment joints whether they will close or not.

KTV's will most likely be closed due to most gals have went back to their hometown ...
thus it's not a good time to cheong in vietnam during CNY .. especially during the eve and the first few days of CNY ...

Continuation from where I left off.

The Karaoke Holiday, as I was told, starts from 8.30pm. However, we had a friend that brought us there and know the mama-san so we were able to enter the joint at 8pm. What struck me most when I entered wasnt the decor but there were 3 lady attendants that said "欢迎光临“. I was surprised but glad. As it turned out, the mama-sans that came in brought girls that can speak passable Mandarin.

I think the place easily had more than 10 rooms but since ours was the 1st room and had its own toilet, I didnt venture out to see. But I noted that there was a long corridor that gave me an impression of the size of the place. The room was very spacious cos it could accommodate more than 15 of us. All of us had 2 girls each + 2 mama-sans so you can imagine. The selection of songs in the KTV room is reasonable with a sizeable selection of Chinese, Hokkien and English songs.

When the girls came in, they also greeted us in Mandarin, and the mama-san would introduce those that can speak chinese or english. I think as all mama-sans do, they make subtle recommendations rather than let us choose. I think we saw about 50 girls while my friend said the place has about 200. Like I said before, the quality varies from 6 to 8.5 but almost all are slim.

Pricing is VND200k for tip but if you dont like the girl you can change quickly without tip. Tabao is USD100 and they would take your hotel address and room number and meet you there. They can only leave at 12 midnight as that is the closing time. The girl can stay up with you till morning and is expected to.

Sorry I only have so much time to provide info on the KTV and the FR on Ngo will follow tonight when I have time. Now its time to go out for business trip.

Bro, this place sounds good. Seldom see FR on this type of KTV cheonging in HCM. Sometimes prefer this type to the disco-pub concept popular there.

District 8 is not actually a very safe place to be. Its meant more for locals. For the prices you paid for a KTV session in D8 is considered quite high. USD$100 over for over night is also considered quite high.

Dont get the wrong idea, many thanks for sharing but I thought that maybe I could provide you with another point of view.

The last time I went to a KTV in D5, just off the one of HCMC main roads, 3 btls JW Black, plus mixers, plus food, plus snacks, etc etc came to almost USD$250. TIps for gers standard was VND100k. took the ger overnight, for VND 1mil. milke me dry, 4 shots. Pretty anot i wont comment as beauty in the eys of the beholder but than i would rate her as above average.

FYI: taxi prices in HCMC have increased aprox 10% - 15%. PRices for many many things are slowly increasing also die to inflation as well as the upcoming Holidays where many use it as in excuse to charge extra.

I think someone had said that the girls that work in the more "touristy" districts such as D1 tend to be able to have a better command of English and/or Mandarin. D8 not too safe for non-white foreigners also?

4 shots ah? Weee-weeet! Haha! I recently had a 4-shot at a Stinkapore KTV... kaoz. 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and 12mn. Damn shagged man. Girl apologized later because i looked so worn out. Haha! Walking down the stairs was hard....

Bro, why single out D8 in particular? I tot in vn, everywhere not safe if not careful and take precaution.

I am always at Ta Quan Buu, D8. Seems very residential area with mixture of the rich (damn big houses, machiam villa) and poor. Only one 1 kana snatch thief at Nguyen Tri Phuong, D8.

My bro say alot of drug trafficker in D8, my gf say last time many drug trafficker. Now alot less. Issit because of this reason, it is not safe?

a couple of years back...D4 and D8 not the safest place...alot of gangs, thieves, drugiess, druig dealers etc etc....but now slightly better but still must be cautious....i do know that alot of KTV gers stay in D8...hehehehe

Hi Bro Reaper, dont worry about your comments. My objective is to post what occurred and if there is another point of reference for other bros to compare, that's even better.

Whether any area is safe or not is not apparent to any new visitor in the city. The whole place is cramp with motor bikes and cars in the evening that it is simply amazing to watch, so long as you are not in the car trying to get to somewhere.

The beauty of having a local contact is to allow you to go places that are more local and still be relatively safe. Else we are likely stuck to places that are more pricey and for tourists like Le Royale or Catwalk.

After dinner last nite, we went to Le Royale just to have a look at the place and compare. But as we were there late, it was already pack and there was no room. I got to see the exterior and the girls sitting at the bar area and I was impressed. But without any room, we went to Catwalk.

Unfortunately, when we got there, we were assigned a Mama-san that looked like we owed her money. That already was a turn-off. The girls she brought in were alright but perhaps because we forget to tell her in advance, I picked one that I cant bring back. After that, we changed mama-san.

For the newly initiated, Catwalk is outside the lobby of New World China along the main road. As you walk in, there is a band and sofas lining the wall. The decor is pretty good and there was lots of girls sitting around. As you past this area, there was another section that looked like a lounge which I didnt venture in. The KTV rooms were upstairs.

I would rate the room as classy. Price for the deluxe room comes with a minimum spending of VND3.6m. This means your drinks, girls charges must come up to at least 3.6m or be charged 3.6m. Over the minimum would be charged at actual. The wine price varies from 720k to more than 20m. beer were at 56k a can. Girls booking is about USD15 per hour but this goes to the company and not the girls. At the end, you are expected to tip the girls. I was told the price is around VND300k but my girl wanted more, which I didnt obliged. The girls were asking for USD200 for tabao.

Some of the girls can speak English and Chinese and their dressing is more classy. But classy places commands more $$ which is expected. But somehow, I didnt feel as fun as the night before. Perhaps it was the attitude of the 1st mama-san and my girl not being able to tabao? I am not sure.

In the end, I went back alone. The place closes at 1 or 2am but the girls knock off at midnite. One good thing is that this allows you to spend more quality time back at the hotel rather than end up tired and/or drunk in the KTV.
