Reputation system rev 09 dated 15 Oct 2005
I woke up this morning and decided that those who have been members for a long time deserve recognition for their long service, patience, and dedication.
Nicks that have been around for at least 2 years therefore gain an additional point of reputation power. In the true spirit of "conservative Asian Values", the "old folk" are respected and rewarded accordingly. ![]() Here's the latest : ******** 1. Everyone starts with 15 reputation points and reputation power of 0. When a reputation score of 35 is reached, reputation power becomes 1. 2. If reputation becomes 0 or negative, moderation starts. this will prevent newbies from being zapped too quickly for one stupid mistake. 3. Number of posts have NO EFFECT on reputation power. 4. 1 point of reputation power is gained every TWO YEARS 5. Reputation points have NO EFFECT on reputation power. 6. ONE Reputation click allowed every 24 hours so award those clicks only when necessary. 7. Reputation spread figure has been doubled (used to be 500 - now 1000) 8. Flames and off topic posts will result in point deductions from me or my moderator. 9. Reputation votes are secret. In other words, you can vote either way without fear or favour. HOWEVER, those who abuse the system by making vicious attacks and spewing vulgarities anonymously will have their nicks exposed and placed under moderation if the victim complains to the moderators. If you want to FUCK someone via the reputation system, then have the guts to reveal your nick when doing so and you won't be penalised. 10. Those who use the reputation system to frame innocent parties may also be exposed. 11. Those caught registering multiple nicks in order to build up their "war chest" to abuse the system will be placed in deep moderation mode (-999 reputation points) Have fun with the new system.

U said newbies complained "seniors" abuse power. By doing this, it goes back to the same reason again, don't u think so. Anyway, even if you go back to 1 rep power for every nick, the "newbies" will still say "seniors" abuse power on them by looking at the date of joining the forum. I wonder these people when their parents scold them when young, do they tell their parents off that they abuse their power on them due to their date of birth SC

Re: Reputation system rev 09 dated 15 Oct 2005
Yup it's a compromise but there are far less points to "abuse". Nobody can zap more than 2 points with this latest system and gaining rep points is not going to help anyone gain power so the quest for points should be a lot more muted.
At the end of the day, it's all about coming up with a balanced system which is not abused excessively. Let's see how this latest formula goes. Quote:

Towkay, now nobody can accuse me of impersonating a newbie
, seriously, thanks!I like the fact that genuine old birds are accorded additional rep power for their continued participation here. I think it's fair, or maybe I'm currently sleep-deprived ![]()

Re: Reputation system rev 09 dated 15 Oct 2005
From 200 days/ pt becomes 1yr/ pt seems fair,
Just take it as increased of Income Tax or GST lor, We the citizen of Sillypore lan lan de, haha. But boss, rep pt is also 1 of the factors when bros contributes, Taking it away totally is not so good an idea also, why not make it the same as "Increased of Income Tax or GST"? Can I suggest make it 400 or 500 / pt? Which means if you newbie, you contributes good and fast enough, you will also be recognised. This is the real world, heehee ![]()

Re: Reputation system rev 09 dated 15 Oct 2005
I seriously thought the rep database crashed or something when I saw my power fell from 8 to 1.
I read thru rev 08, interestingly some seniors still dun like the system they "benefitted" from. but as we all learn, consensus iz difficult in an open forum. I saw the first immediate abuse of mighty "1" when someone zapped me (at least leave reason mah). In fact, it's the first time anyone took pts off me since Sam (I felt wronged ok, but never ask to be reinstated)! Ok lah, it's still early days, but glad that he's willing to review this system. One suggestion: Seniority may be a good measure to Rep Power, but surely Rep Pts & Posts contribute to a certain extent too? How about a formula, say, <Rep Power = 15 Pts + 1 Yr + 0.5*Rep Pts + 0.25*Posts>? (0.5 & 0.25 are the "weightage", not physically multiplying the Rep Pts or Posts... maths people sure can figure out wat i mean) This may not the best fix. But may help to encourage good posts and active participation. |
