Re: Sungai Golok, Southern Thailand

Bro, your question, pros house is around THB1,200 - THB2,000 depend on age range, a lot from Laos young ones but ask what service BBJ, BJ with cap,Shower together, limited shots, etc,. Thai pros slightly cheaper.

Hotels are cheapest among the border towns, Genting THB 580,Marina THB 650, Merlin THB420, Genting and Marina you have disco, massage, restaurant all facilities.

Betong, Southern Thailand

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 13 October 2010 ;-

Living down a troubled past - Violence-free Betong district is now ready to welcome back tourists

A former Betong district chief describes this southernmost township as "a place where people are afraid to come but don't want to leave".

Betong is about 1,600 kilometres from Bangkok. The distance, however, does nothing to keep people away from this exquisite town on the Thai-Malaysian border.

The fact that it is one of eight districts of insurgent-infiltrated Yala province cannot hide its many beauties.

The easiest way to get there is via Highway No. 410, which snakes through mountainous areas, passing Krong Pinang, Bannang Sata and Than To districts, where deadly attacks have taken place since the southern unrest flared up six years ago.

Traces of bomb craters and holes dotting the 140 kilometre-long highway linking Muang district with Betong are evidence of years of unrest. They are in stark contrast to the splendid scenery of lush tropical forest, wild flowers, rock cliffs, natural creeks and small villages.

"Outsiders fear death when they hear the names of Yala districts," Yala governor Grisada Boonrach told about 60 Thai and Malaysian journalists during a tourism promotion trip to Betong last month.

From January 2004 until January this year, there were about 9,500 separatism-related violent incidents in the provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, plus the four districts of Songkhla. At least 4,100 people have died and more than 6,500 have been injured.

Yala suffered the second-highest number of attacks after Narathiwat.

"In fact, Yala is not as scary as people thought, especially Betong, which has the lowest number of violent incidents of districts in the deep South," Mr Grisada said.

Betong municipality had zero reports of violent incidents over the past couple of years, he added.

The last major incident in Betong municipality was on June 15, 2006, when militants set off 50 bombs in the three southernmost provinces, killing at least three people and injuring scores of state workers and civilians. Six bank branches in the municipality were hit. There were no casualties.

After that attack, Betong residents joined hands to safeguard their communities and successfully blocked insurgents from causing unrest in the district.

"We have been trying to promote the Betong model to violence-ridden districts. Betong villagers have proved that strength and unity among residents are the key to warding off insurgent attacks," said the governor.

Betong is a closed town with only one main road, making security operations easier than in other districts. Its security situation has prompted Yala provincial office to promote Betong as the selling point for Yala tourism.

Mr Grisada said Betong had "everything a town needs to become a popular tourist destination" - from the fine annual average temperature of 18C, cultural diversity, delicious food and tourism venues such as the famous Piyamit Tunnel, built by members of the now-defunct Communist Party of Malaya, royally initiated highland flower orchards and natural hot springs.

The district also links with tourist destinations in the Malaysian states of Penang and Perak via a Malaysian highway.

Yala province has been working on two megaprojects that will raise Betong's profile on the tourism map.

One is the construction of a bridge crossing Bang Lang Dam's reservoir in Bannang Sata district. The bridge would shorten the distance from Muang district to Betong to 110km and cut travelling time by 40 minutes. It currently takes about two hours by car.

The other project is Betong airport, which is to be built on a 920-rai plot. The government has allocated the first batch of a 200 million baht budget for land purchase.

The airport will serve small aircraft and be similar in size and capacity to Mae Hong Son airport.

According to Betong municipal mayor Khunawut Mongkhonprajak, the road project, supervised by military engineers, is due to be completed within two years, while the airport project is expected to be completed in 2014 at the earliest.

He believes the projects will boost Betong tourism. Security is no longer a problem, he said, thanks to strong defence operations by Betong villagers, especially in the municipal area. The mayor feels the district is now ready to welcome visitors.

"The 2006 bombings were a wake-up call for Betong residents. We never lowered our guard [against violent attacks]," said Mr Khunawut. "We have installed surveillance cameras in the centre and everyone - from food vendors to bell boys - is working as security guards for the town."

The mayor was referring to the famous Ta Sapparot (pineapple's eyes) and Red Radio projects in which residents are trained to keep watch for unusual incidents and suspicious characters.

Some 350 walkie-talkies were distributed to Betong residents by the 4th Army earlier this year for peace-keeping operations. Members of the Ta Sapparot and Red Radio networks can be seen almost on every corner in the municipality of 78 square kilometres.

"Betong is a multicultural community, but people can live in harmony because local authorities ensure that all groups of people receive equal treatment in all aspects, from education and health care to roles in local administrations," Mr Khunawut said.

Jeerawan Tang-opaswilaisakul, 55, a noodle vendor near Betong Mongkollit Tunnel, a town landmark, said tourism development could make a difference to the livelihoods of residents.

She admitted the atmosphere was quite unpleasant in this town in the aftermath of the 2006 bombings, but said the situation has improved a great deal now.

"We have a strong team of security volunteers. You will feel safe and fall in love with this peaceful town," she said.

Sungai Golok vice ring that sends women to Malaysia

Report from The New Straits Times (Malaysia) dated Monday 18 October 2010 :-

Sungai Golok vice ring that sends women to Malaysia

SUNGAI GOLOK (Southern Thailand): Thai police are tracking down a syndicate based here that provides prostitutes from local nightclubs and massage parlours to their counterparts in Malaysia.

The syndicate, whose members comprised Malaysians and Thais, was believed to have been active over the past several years.

Sungai Golok police chief Colonel Nitinai Langyanai said the syndicate targeted young and beautiful women from nightclubs and massage parlours here to be prostituted at several places, mostly in the Klang Valley.

"The group uses Kelantan as its transit point before sending the women to various destinations. The women are promised better-paying jobs in Malaysia but are cheated and end up as prostitutes.

Nitinai said in some cases, the women went willingly with the syndicate as they were promised jobs with a high income.

Police Chief warns South of New Year attacks

Report from The Nation dated Saturday 18 December 2010 :-

Police chief warns South of New Year attacks

The South will probably be hit by insurgent bomb attacks both before and during the New Year holiday period, national police chief Pol General Wichean Potephosree said yesterday, based on a recent intelligence report.

Most of Yala and Narathiwat provinces are at risk, as well as the Hat Yai district in Songkhla province. Though Pattani is not included in the warning, residents are advised to remain cautious, he said.

He said police "were not taking this warning lightly" and were setting up preventive measures. Wichean was speaking after visiting a police bomb-disposal unit in Yala and reassuring Muslim clerics in the South that scientific evidence would bring justice to the region.

South warned of New Year bomb attacks

Report from The Nation dated Thursday 30.12.2010 :-

South warned of New Year bomb attacks

An explosion in Narathiwat's Ba Cho district in the deep South left four civilians wounded, while intelligence reports have warned against insurgent car-bomb attacks in the region over the New Year period.

Yesterday's home-made bomb, 15kg of explosives in a fire extinguisher, was placed in a Mazda pickup with a fake Songkhla licence plate and parked on Phetkasem Road, not far from the Ba Cho police station.

Security camera footage shows the driver as a well-dressed middle-aged man in white shirt and black pants.

The blast, detonated by mobile-phone signals at around 8.40am, targeted the mobile patrol of a Navy taskforce but narrowly missed its target. The explosion wounded four bystanders, three of whom were road construction workers

Re: Sungai Golok, Southern Thailand

4/8/2011. Took a taxi costing RM75 from the airport in Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang. Dropped by and saw a friend in town who later drove me in his motorbike and let me off near the Malaysian immigration whereby i bypassed without using my passport. Walked along the Harmony Bridge with Sungai Golok below that seperates Malaysia and Thailand.

Its good to be back in Sungai Golok. A place where my cheong experiences started in LOS, over 20 years ago. I have not been in Sungai Golok for over 16 years. Fond memories of my two tiraks, Ah Lin, Ah Pom and other excellent and pathetic encounters with the various ladies, good and bad OKTs, farms, bars, discos, lady boy shows, hotels, etc in Sungai Golok.

There are no changes in Harmony Bridge. Next bridge which is 50 meters away is the railway bridge which me and a few friends crossed without stamping our passports at 3am Malaysian time. We had to meet the comander in chief of the Malaysian Army stationed in the camp. Talked cock with him for an hour, who later asked a patrol of troops to escort us via the railway bridge from the army camp into Sungai Golok. Pretty dangerous, walking on the railway slidings at night. On the other side, which was unguarded, we took the motorbikes to Genting Hotel.

Harmony Bridge was closed, no sampans to cross over at that time. We can wade across the small river to Sungai Golok but instead we took another way.......via the railway bridge by getting to know the comander of the Malaysian Army camp. Very exciting, loh but one of my friends nearly shit and was afraid when crossing the railway bridge. He was damn afraid that he may slipped and fell into the river below !!!.

The hotels is Sungai Golok are the following:

1. Genting Hotel on Asia Road with massage parlour, disco, barber, snooker, restaurant, swimming pool. This is the closest hotel to the immigration. Rooms are now a bit dated now and no XXX channel on TV. No safe deposit box in rooms. Big conference room on the top floor. Got enough parking in front of the hotel.

Used to have an excellent restaurant when i frequent Sungai Golok last time. Excellent shows by Thai puyings and puchais with live band. Every time we sat at a table, many puyings swarmed our table. My friend bonked a singer for free in her room. Damn, how lucky for him !!!.

2. Marina Hotel on Charoenkit Road with Mona Liza massage parlour, Billboard Super Club Disco, Mikado Karaoke, massage parlour, a closed barber, snooker parlour with 5 tables and with drinks counter, an unused and dirty swimming pool because the boss refused to fix the broken filteration system, Meridien restaurant with stage whereby you will be entertained by Thai singers. The Sky Lounge where i previously seen several syt Russians gyrating is now closed and is now converted to get bird nests from swiflets !!!.

Rates for single and double are RM73 to a suite that will cost RM180 ( its a double room joining to another room that is a lounge ). No safe deposit box or XXX porn on TV in the rooms. Got a full mini fridge with beers, soft drinks, etc. Got small parking spaces inside the hotel.

3. Grand Garden Hotel on Prachawiwat Road with more expensive massage parlour, a closed Beijing Karaoke, and a nice swimming pool and restaurant. Rooms are much smaller than Marina Hotel. Small bathroom. Lousy air conditioning. Also got a full mini fridge. No XXX porn on TV but got better and more channels than Marina Hotel. With WiFi. Looked real good from the outside but rather not so good on all the 4 floors where the rooms are located. Dirty carpeting, small lift, rather dark, etc. Hardly any parking in the hotel.

Located rather far away from the immigration crossing but next door to the farms on two roads and on a side road. Rates are RM 60 to RM 186 ( rooms with round bed, multiple mirrors on walls and on the ceiling ).

To be continued:
