Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
STEVIE: MY EURO HEARTACHE
Steven Gerrard has spoken of his heartache that he won't be joining Europe's elite players in Austria and Switzerland this summer. The midfielder capped a man-of-the-match display with a well-worked goal in a 2-0 friendly win over USA on Wednesday night, but England's failure to qualify means he won't be able to take such form into Euro 2008. Gerrard said: "Not going to the Euro finals has been hitting home for a long time, ever since we failed to qualify. "We are going to have to suffer that disappointment throughout the summer. We all wanted to be part of the finals and challenging to win the tournament. "But we've got to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers. We have to put the disappointment we are feeling about this summer to the back of our minds." One piece of business that will be sorted over the coming months is the permanent home for the England captain's armband. Gerrard is a candidate alongside the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Gareth Barry and last night's stand-in John Terry, who bounced back from the anguish of missing a penalty in a Champions League final with a headed goal against the USA. For Gerrard, the Chelsea man's show of resilience was not a surprise. "I am so pleased for John Terry. He is a top guy off the pitch and also a great player on it. He is a fantastic footballer," said the Liverpool captain. "Unfortunately for him, he suffered a big low in his career with what happened in Moscow last week. "But we always knew he was going to bounce back. That is the type of fantastic character that he is. "He showed once again that he is a fantastic leader. He has done it so many times." Meanwhile, Gerrard believes England are starting to make progress under Fabio Capello but is aware there is still much work to be done before they are at the level they want to be. He added: "This was another step in the right direction. We are pleased with the win and we have a clean sheet. We are getting a bit more used to the new set-up. "We are certainly on the right path but there is still a long way to go to get to the level we want to perform at."

More Liverpool FC Legends back ShareLiverpoolFC as it launches in Ireland
Liverpool FC and Republic of Ireland internationals Ronnie Whelan and Jason McAteer have announced their support at the official launch of ShareLiverpoolFC in Ireland. At a press conference at the CityWest Hotel in Dublin at 12.00 noon on Friday 30 May, Ronnie and Jason joined John Aldridge in a bid to boost awareness of the project in Ireland, already one of the biggest supporters of ShareLiverpoolFC outside of England. Ronnie Whelan said: "I'm happy to join other former players like John Aldridge, Jason McAteer and John Barnes in expressing my full support for the ShareLiverpoolFC project. "No one who's played for Liverpool could ever forget the dedication and passion of the fans. If any football club should be owned by its fans, surely it's Liverpool FC? The fans are the heart and soul of this great Club. We've all seen what's happened recently; it's wrong for 'ownership' of such an historic football club to be traded like a commodity. "I wasn't surprised to hear that Ireland was in the top three nations for numbers of visits to the ShareLiverpoolFC website. We all know how passionate many Irish fans are in their support for Liverpool. You've only got to visit Anfield on a match day to realise how the long association between the City and the Republic has flourished into a dedicated following for LFC. "I'm sure that when the 'fan-members' take over the Club they love, many thousands of them will be Irish - and that is just as it should be." The ShareLiverpoolFC Ireland effort is spearheaded by Bernard O'Byrne, former CEO of the Football Association of Ireland, and Group Chief Executive of The Mansfield Group. Bernard will represent Ireland on the Steering Group of ShareLiverpoolFC. More information is available at our revamped website at ShareLiverpoolFC.com. We'll continue to improve the site and add new features over the coming weeks, so let us know what you think. Best wishes Rogan Taylor ShareLiverpoolFC Steering Group Share Liverpool FC |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
TORRES: I LOVE IT AT ANFIELD
Fernando Torres has spoken about his affection for Liverpool FC and said he wants to stay at the club for many years to come. El Nino, who is preparing for Euro 2008 with Spain, was a record breaker in his debut season at Anfield when he beat Ruud van Nistelrooy's scoring record. His strike at Tottenham on the final day of the season saw the Spanish star become the most prolific foreigner ever in a debut season with 24 Premier League goals. Earlier this week Rafael Benitez laughed off suggestions linking his star striker with a move away from Anfield and said the player is simply not for sale. "It is an honour to be linked to clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea, or Arsenal, but I am not thinking about a change and I want to continue playing for Liverpool for many years to come," said Torres. Reflecting on his debut season at Anfield the Reds number nine said things couldn't have gone any better for him. "It's been quite easy for me," he added. "I have been able to enjoy every minute at a club where things have gone well. "I have been part of a team where every player shares the same goals and where a player can rely on the support of his team-mates. "I have also worked with a manager who believed in me. It was the combination of all these factors.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
2 me,the equation is veri straight 4ward here.
Irregardless of hw much affection Fernando Torres has spoken abt tis club,it seems 2 me that he came here becos of Rafael Benitez. If Rafa is around,i m quite sure that Rafa will try all means 2 hold onto him. Likewise 4 Torres,he would want 2 work with a manager fr spain as well. I still think that the americans doesn't fit into the equation here. Bring on the $$ fr DIC. ![]() |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -Netherlands winger Ryan Babel is out of the European Championship after injuring his ankle in training on Saturday morning.
Babel tore ankle ligaments and a scan showed that the injury will sideline the 21-year-old player for several weeks, the Dutch soccer association said. Coach Marco van Basten did not immediately announce a replacement. The injury came a day before the Netherlands plays Wales in its last friendly match before the European Championship. Van Basten's team plays world champion Italy on June 9 in Berne to open its Euro 2008 campaign. It also plays World Cup runner up France and Romania in what is considered the toughest qualifying group at the tournament. Many of us are looking forward to seeing him play in Euro 2008,doubt Van Basten will play him in the starting 11 though. Wish him speedy recovery & hopefully he is fit for the new season.

I agree he may not be in the starting 11, just look at the names in the Dutch squad. Amazing. Even if he appears as a sub, the experience will help him grow as a mature player. I think Babel can be a very good player for us. The ankle injury is just plain bad luck. |

I think a lot of those who signed up are motivated by replacing the shitty americans and not profits. Their style of washing linen in public hurts a lot of fans. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
glad to hear that Torres is very happy at Anfiled.
sad to hear that Babel will be out for several weeks. oh yeah, hope he recovers in time when we start our qualifying for the CL. we need to sign some new players to cover each section - defend, midfield and attack.

Hopefully so if that is true. So far very quiet on the transfer market. Think everyone is waiting for the Euro Championship to concluded then look for suitable targets.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
I think it could also be a situation where the targets dun want transfer dealings to distract them from Euro2008. Like Ronaldo, he only want to think of Real Madrid after Euro 08. Let's hope Rafa gets the $$$ he needs.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Liverpool close to £7m deal for Inter's Dossena ![]() Liverpool are on the brink of completing the £7million signing of Italian full-back Andrea Dossena. The 26-year-old is believed to be on Merseyside today having a medical ahead of a proposed move from Udinese. The proximity of the deal has been confirmed by the player's agent, Federico Pastorello, who has been quoted in the Italian media today saying: 'Everything is confirmed and we have already exchanged documents via fax. The deal is practically done.' Dossena is getting married at the weekend, but both club and player want the medical concluded and the final details of the deal settled before then. Initially, Udinese wanted £8million for the player, but a compromise has been reached and, subject to the medical, Dossena will become Liverpool's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Swiss right-back Philipp Degen. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez will fund the move by selling John Arne Riise, with Roma now the favourites to sign the Norwegian. Benitez will then move to try to complete the signing of Gareth Barry, with an increased offer having been made to Aston Villa that could mean the midfielder costing upwards of £15million. Peter Crouch could be used as part-exchange in the deal. The Anfield chief is also considering formally entering the race to sign Cardiff's 17-year-old midfield star Aaron Ramsey. Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton - who made a £5million bid last night - have all been given permission to talk to the Welsh youngster, who became the youngest player to appear in an FA Cup final at Wembley last month. Liverpool made one initial inquiry but believed a deal with Manchester United was almost complete. However, it seems there is now some doubt over that, with Cardiff willing to allow the Premier League clubs to out-bid each other. Liverpool could offer winger Paul Anderson and striker Adam Hammill as loan players to Cardiff for next season. Anderson helped Swansea win promotion last season on a 12-month loan, and could now find himself offered to their bitter south Wales rivals for the next campaign.
