Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
RONALDO WAGE CUT SHOCK
REAL Madrid will ask Cristiano Ronaldo to take a PAY CUT to leave Manchester United. In a sensational twist in their attempts to lure the Portuguese winger, the Spanish giants are only preparing to offer him a £5.5m-a-season deal. The contract would leave Ronaldo around £1.5m out of pocket if he leaves Old Trafford. Club sources claim the player will not be bothered by the pay cut because his commercial earnings away from football will rocket after he signs for them. However, it’s a massive step down from original suggestions that they would offer him £10m a year. Club captain Raul is understood to have it written into his contract that no-one at the club can be paid more than him. So Ronaldo would join World Cup-winning Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas on the same money as the Real forward. Ronaldo would also lose out on image rights – signing 50 per cent of his earnings in Spain over to Real.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
MANCHESTER UNITED, Monitor Pavlyuchenko, Huntelaar - Report
This is the first instance in which Pavlyuchenko, 26, has been linked with the Red Devils, and according to The Daily Star, the interest comes off the back of an impressive Euro 2008 campaign with Russia, in which he scored three goals and exhibited tremendous movement and energy. Such a style would be well-suited to United's style of play, but the Russian's occasional waywardness in front of goal is one thing counting against him, while his 6'2 stature would make him an aerial threat in a United side currently somewhat lacking in that department. Meanwhile Dutch international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - who has been linked with United before as successor to Ruud van Nistelrooy - has once again emerged as a potential transfer target for the Red Devils after contract negotiations broke down with his club Ajax. The powerful striker scored one goal in the one appearance he was afforded at Euro 2008 - otherwise left out in favour of van Nistelrooy, by incoming Ajax coach Marco van Basten. Perhaps such an ominous sign has led the 24-year-old, who previously stated van Basten's appointment had inspired him to stay, to change his mind. Chelsea are also thought to be on the look out for the prolific forward as a replacement for Didier Drogba, should the Cote d'Ivoire international depart Stamford Bridge for Milan this summer after all. United, meanwhile, are thought to be chasing Dimitar Berbatov as their primary target for a target-man striker, with Pavlyuchenko and Huntelaar possibly serving as slightly cheaper and/or younger alternatives. According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are ready to offer 30 million Euros to Tottenham to obtain striker Dimitar Berbatov; the offer will certainly be refused as the bulgarian player is valued by the Spurs at least 40 millions

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
SAF should really look at Podolski, he can be a replacement for Scholes, or a left midfielder or a striker. And he's young too
![]() Pavlyuchenko need many chances to score a goal, machiam Andrew Cole, but he covers the ball well.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Glazers Resigned To Ron Exit - Report
The Glazer family are resigned to losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain. Madrid-based newspaper AS reports that the American owners of Manchester United are currently working on the assumption that the Portuguese winger will move to Real. The paper claims that - after several conversations with United chief executive David Gill - the Glazers realise that Ronaldo's departure is inevitable, and will have to begin negotiations with Real over what is sure to be a world record transfer. Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly told United that his client wants to make the move, and although definite negotiations have not yet started, a transfer is seen as an inevitability. AS claims that a bid of around 70-75 million Euros (just under £60million) will be enough to persuade United to sell their prize asset. Ronaldo is currently on holiday following Euro 2008, and is set to undergo surgery on an ankle injury in the next few days.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Parker slams coward Ronaldo
Eurosport - Fri, 04 Jul 16:24:00 2008 Former Manchester United player Paul Parker thinks Cristiano Ronaldo should act like a man over his transfer to Real Madrid. "It is plainly obvious that Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't want to come back to Manchester United, but he isn't man enough to say so. It is like somebody who wants a divorce but isn't brave enough to start proceedings. He has made no attempt to justify his position to the fans, the manager or anybody. He has made comments about wanting Carlos Queiroz to get the Portugal job, but he is strangely quiet when it comes to clarifying his own situation. He is just sitting there hoping Real Madrid strike a deal, and is dreading having to go back and face the music. I think a lot of United fans have been very upset by his behaviour. He took years to win them over with his performances, but will have to start from scratch again if he does return. Even from a neutral point of view I don't think it is the right time for him to move. The majority of great players are associated with a particular club and have shown loyalty over their career. Ronaldo has shown no loyalty whatsoever and I think it will stop him going down as one of the greats. Will he be able to score 40 goals a season in Madrid? I very much doubt it. Sir Alex Ferguson took a major gamble on Ronaldo, bringing him through at a young age and sticking with him when he didn't appear to be progressing. He made him physically and mentally stronger - Sir Alex made Ronaldo like he made Beckham, Scholes and Giggs. No other manager could have done the job Fergie has done, and Ronaldo has let him down badly. I don't think there will be much sympathy for Ronaldo in the Old Trafford dressing room. Players usually understand if somebody is looking to move to a bigger club or get a better contract. But Ronaldo is already one of the highest-paid players at the biggest team in England and the European champions. Why would he leave for a club that were nowhere near in the Champions League? These kind of things happen and I think the United players will be professional enough to get on with it if he comes back, but they will be disappointed that he wants to walk away. Although I hold the player ultimately responsible, his agent has not helped. Agents do not always work in the players' best interests because they get a big payday every time there is a transfer. You have to hope Ronaldo will see sense, and in any case there should be no rush to sell him as he has four years left on his contract. But you worry that he could upset the harmony in the dressing room if he doesn't get what he wants. In my playing days players looked to move clubs, but they kept their mouths shut and things were played out internally, not in the papers. If you acted up, you went straight in the reserves. But clubs cannot afford to do that these days as it could damage the value of the player. You have to wonder whether there is any point having contracts any more. I think United will cope without Ronaldo. Sir Alex will look to bring in another forward who can score 20 goals like Dimitar Berbatov, and of course more of the burden will fall on Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney. You get the feeling that Rooney has coasted a little bit through the last two seasons and allowed Ronaldo to carry him. He will really have to step up to the plate and prove his quality if Ronaldo goes, because the onus will be squarely on Rooney to inspire the United attack."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
United: Ronaldo Reports Nonsense
Fri 04 Jul, 06:09 PM Manchester United have described latest reports claiming that a move by Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid is imminent as "utter nonsense" and insisted that the Portuguese winger is not for sale. Ronaldo is expected to undergo surgery on an ankle early next week after he was seen by a specialist today and may miss the start of the new season. United, meanwhile, have been infuriated by a report in Spain claiming that the 23-year-old will sign for Real within a matter of days. A club spokesman said: "It is utter nonsense and totally laughable. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale." Despite Ronaldo's desire to move and a huge fee of around £70million being on offer, United chiefs believe selling the player would cause huge disruption to the club. Apart from the effect on the team's playing style and formation, it would also send a signal that United are in some way a lesser team than Real. The Glazer family bought United because they viewed it as the biggest club in the world so they cannot afford to been seen as weaker than Real Madrid, one of their biggest European rivals, or in thrall to their star player. The message chief executive David Gill has given to the Glazers is that if they stand firm on Ronaldo and neither sell him nor give him another big new contract then it will strike a major blow against player-power and have long-term future benefits for the club. There is no real financial incentive to the Glazers either - the club's profits are already covering their debt repayments easily so there is no requirement to raise new capital. If they considered selling him, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would argue that he would need all the £70million fee as transfer funds to replace his most valuable player. Confirmation of Ronaldo's operation comes after a specialist echoed the view of medical staff from both United and the Portuguese FA that the ankle injury needs surgery. He could be out for up to six weeks, and could be out for the start of the season. United leave for their tour of South Africa on July 18 but Ronaldo was not going on the trip anyway.
